Would You Recognise A Panic Attack?

August 4th, 2009

Panic attacks and anxiety attacks are basically the same thing, and they are on the rise. The cause of the increase isn’t fully understood, but modern life with all its pressure and stress could be a factor. No matter the cause, they are increasing and causing more people more problems than ever.

Would you recognise a panic attack if you had one? That’s a difficult question to answer as the symptoms are quite wide ranging and can vary from mild to the downright frightening. You may just experience a hot sweat or you may experience an attack where you can’t breath and your heart races out of control.

I think if you were having the more serious symptoms you would know you needed some type of help. If your symptoms are mild though, you may not even realise it’s a panic or anxiety attack. These mild symptoms could well be warning signs of something worse to come.

My wife had her first serious panic attack while out driving the car. Needless to say it wasn’t just the actual anxiety attack that frightened her but the fact she could have crashed and killed herself and others. This scenario just doesn’t bear thinking about.

If you haven’t been feeling yourself lately, maybe you’ve had one or two of these symptoms… Feeling anxious or on edge, can’t sleep, can’t concentrate, can’t sit still or feeling irritated. Any of these small signs could be a forewarning that something else is about to hit you.

Before you actually get into a panic about these symptoms let me assure you there are many things that can cause these symptoms. And you shouldn’t worry about them. Too much caffeine can stop you sleeping. Uncomfortable clothing can cause you to fidget.

However if you think you may want to delve further and check out if you are a potential anxiety attack victim. Taking an anxiety symptoms test can give you a much clearer idea of your risk. You simply tick a few yes or no boxes and total your score at the end.

Then you can make the choice to take further action or not. Take the anxiety symptoms test here.
