Easy Ways To Meditate On The Go

May 29th, 2009

The benefits of incorporating meditation into your daily life are astounding. It allows you to think clearly and remain calm even when faced with stressful situations. It can give you a burst of energy and lift your mood when your spirits are low. If your problem is finding time and space to actually do it, consider the following easy ways to meditate anytime of the day and anywhere you happen to be.

You can meditate a million different ways depending on your location and situation, but you must always pay attention to two things: posture and breathing.

You must first find the most comfortable position possible in your current location. Even if you are at your desk at work you can sit up straight in your chair and relax all the muscles of your body. If you are tense it may take some concentration to ease the muscles.

Wherever you end up sitting, make sure to straighten and lift your spine all the way so you are erect. This will allow the air to pass properly through your body when you start breathing. Also, roll your shoulders back and lift your head. Focus your eyes straight ahead but turn in just a little for a narrow focus, or close them if possible.

For your breathing, follow a pattern that is slow and deliberate. For example, inhale slowly for a count of eight and then hold it there for another count of eight before slowly releasing. Counting will help you control the intake and release of air so that you get the full benefits of your time.

If you can close your eyes or focus them on one spot and concentrate on your breathing then you have the basic elements of simple meditation. If you want to use a relaxing word or sound you can either speak it slowly as you breathe or just use it at the top of your breathe just before holding and releasing.

No one has to know what you are doing if you use these easy ways to meditate. You can achieve the mental benefits without actually going into a full on meditation session.
